Du Svardenvyrd is a prophetic book written by the priest Nisses. The Title can be translated as "The Spell of the Sword" or "The Weird of the Swords".

Description[]

Near-mythical prophetic book by Nisses.

Made with the skin of an unknown hairless animal as a binding, and lambsfoil, hellebore, rue and blood ink. The book itself is large and weighs as much as a small child. Full of obscure writings hidden in runes and rhymes.

History[]

The book was allegedly written by the priest Nisses, a counselor of King Hjeldin the Mad. After Nisses' death, the book was deemed heretical by the Aedonite Church and - contrary to most other books of that type - stored in the Sancellan Aedonitus rather than burned. The book sat in an onyx casket before its whereabouts became unknown.

Cadrach came into possession of the book, and Pyrates sought him for that information. After having read the book, Cadrach sold its pages - and it is likely Pyrates was able to procure some, though Cadrach would not sell directly to him.

Text[]

The Three Swords[]

"When frost doth grow on Cloves’ hell

And Shadows walk upon the road

When water blackens in the Well

Three Swords must come again

When Bukken from the Earth do creep

And Hunën from the heights descend

When Nightmare throttles peaceful Sleep

Three Swords must come again

To turn the stride of treading Fate

To clear the fogging Mists of Time

If Early shall resist Too Late

Three Swords must come again"

The Blinded Man[]

One of the focuses of the story is this particular poem that was written in this book.

"Bring from Nuanni's Rocke Garden,

The Man who tho' Blinded canne See

Discover the Blayde that delivers The Rose

At the foote of the Rimmer's great Tree

Find the Call whose lowde Claime

Speaks the Call-bearer's name

In a Shippe on the Shallowest Sea-

-When Blayde, Call, and Man

Come to Prince's right Hande

Then the Prisoned Shall Once more go Free"

Quotes[]

Quotes about[]

"The world is different once Nisses has explained it. It is as though the pages of his book were dipped in some slow poison that kills the spirit. I touched them all." Cadrach to Miriamelle, TGAT Ch.9
